Reader Description

What do a scorpion, a barnacle, and an ant have in common? They all have jointed legs and an exoskeleton, and they belong to a group of animals called arthropods. Arthropods are found just about everywhere - there are even some living on you!

After you have completed the Reader

Explore your garden and look for arthropods. Make a chart with four columns. In the first column, draw the arthropod. In the second column, write down whether it is an insect, an arachnid, a crustacean, or a myriapod. In the third column, write down how many legs the arthropod has. In the fourth column, write down how it protects itself. Record all the arthropods you find.
